Nestled in the heart of Niger State, lies the impressive Shiroro Hydroelectric Power Station in Nigeria, a beacon of sustainable energy production. Established in 1990, this monumental facility has been a cornerstone of Nigeria’s energy landscape, providing vital power to fuel the nation’s growth and development. With its awe-inspiring capacity of 600 megawatts, Shiroro stands as a testament to Nigeria’s commitment to harnessing its abundant natural resources for the betterment of its people.
At the forefront of Nigeria’s hydroelectric power sector, NSP spearheads operations at this state-of-the-art facility. As part of the Federal Government’s privatization program, NSP took the helm of this strategic asset in November 2013, embarking on a journey to maximize its potential and contribute to Nigeria’s energy security.
One of the hallmarks of Shiroro is its cutting-edge infrastructure. Situated on a sprawling 34 square kilometers of land, the power station boasts a formidable rock-filled concrete-faced dam standing at 115 meters tall and stretching 700 meters in length. This engineering marvel is complemented by a reservoir spanning 7 billion cubic meters, ensuring a steady and reliable water supply to power its turbines.
